Very nice approach to get visitors to prove that they are actual humans and not (spam)robots. A jQuery captcha approach that asks the visitor to slide/unlock an element like on the iPhone.

jQuery Slide to unlockMuch better that the normal captcha methods where users have to type in letter combinations that are so hard to read that I find my self  pressing the “can’t read the letters above” button a lot.

Anybody can do Usability

Not really a new article of Jakob Nielsen — but a very interesting one for small businesses like ours who want to be different by using usability testing in their development process.

Summary:
Usability is like cooking: everybody needs the results, anybody can do it reasonably well with a bit of training, and yet it takes a master to produce a gourmet outcome.

Summary:

Web users spend 80% of their time looking at information above the page fold. Although users do scroll, they allocate only 20% of their attention below the fold.

Jakob Nielsen has posted a new article about Web Usability guidelines. Quite shocking is the fact about “the fold” where I also thought that this wasn’t an issue anymore — but according to Jakob Nielsen 80% of Web usability guidelines from the 1990s are still in force.

Very interesting and nice article to read — which made me more alert to the way we should design our websites.

From all the preview movies I’ve seen of the upcoming version of the CS5 version of Photoshop you can see that Adobe didn’t just to the anual trick and pasted a new version number on it. This time (also because its a anniversary edition) they are really changing and adding features that the community has been asking for ! Things like the “Save As to Originial Folder” and the “Close All and an option to save al changes” is really nice.

Check out some great new features from Adobe Labs
