jQuery slide to unlock
No comments · Posted by {rg} Sven {rg} in General, Jquery, Made me smile, Nice!, Usability, usability research, xhtml/css
Very nice approach to get visitors to prove that they are actual humans and not (spam)robots. A jQuery captcha approach that asks the visitor to slide/unlock an element like on the iPhone.
Much better that the normal captcha methods where users have to type in letter combinations that are so hard to read that I find my self pressing the “can’t read the letters above” button a lot.

The Google Font API helps you add web fonts to any web page.
Benefits of the Google Font API include:
- A choice of high quality open source fonts.
- Works in most browsers.
- Extremely easy to use.
url: http://code.google.com/intl/ja/apis/webfonts/
To give developers a choice of high-quality fonts when using the Font API, we have created the Google Font Directory. There you can browse our catalog of available fonts, learn about the font designers who created them, and copy the code required to use them on your web page.
The fonts in the directory are all released under open source licenses; you can use them on any non-commercial or commercial project.

How To Succesfully Educate Your Clients on Web Development
No comments · Posted by {rg} Sven {rg} in General, Made me look, Made me smile, Nice!, design, xhtml/css
Great article on Smashing Magazine about the recognizable things we web developers/designers always come across when dealing with clients. The usual “make my logo bigger” phrase is well one heard quite often — Smashing Magazine includes an nice chart that illustrates the size of the logo and what it says about the company.
Summary:
“At the end of the day you are at the mercy of the client, and you need to meet all of their requirements. But you also have to recognize your value and be able to demonstrate it through examples, research and logical arguments. Be responsive: ask a lot of questions in order to understand the client’s motivation. I endorse client education, but not to the point of losing the client and project. Remember that your client is a resource to you, and good communication will enable both of you to complete the project in time to watch the men’s figure-skating competition.”

So you need a Typeface?
No comments · Posted by {rg} Sven {rg} in General, Made me smile, Nice!, Typography, advertisement, design, xhtml/css
The way to Comic Sans is quite curious…
Would have expected it not to actually be there — or more something like “are you insensitive to design or things that look nice? or are you making a advertisement for a Pizza place” -> Comic Sans

HTML5 Features you Should be Using Right Now
Just watched this explanation of Jeffrey Way on Tutsplus.com about how you can implement html5 in your code right now — very interesting and I’ve made my html5 snippet for in textmate/e-texteditor.
On that same subject the Html5 website presentation is also very interesting.
